The system

Two materials, one continuous floor.

EPDM safety surfacing

Poured-in-place. An SBR base layer absorbs impact, an EPDM wear layer holds the colour, and an aliphatic PU binder ties it all together. Seamless, porous, UV-stable, and inclusive — wheelchair, walker and prosthetic-friendly with no trip joints.

  • 15–110 mm total thickness scaled to fall height
  • Full EPDM colour range, mixed to any pattern
  • Porous monsoon drainage — no standing water
  • Inclusive / ADA-compliant transitions

4soft graphic components

EPDM and polyurethane graphic elements that turn a plain safety floor into a play and learning environment. 2D floor graphics, 3D raised shapes, EPDM furniture, and early-years pieces — over 2,500 prefab designs, plus a free bespoke design service.

  • 2D graphic panels — hopscotch, sensory paths, sports lines
  • 3D raised shapes — hills, mounds, stools, sculptures
  • EPDM furniture — seats, tables, planters
  • Early-years components for nursery and kindergarten
Where it goes

Configurable across schools, hotels and resorts.

Education

Curriculum-aligned floor graphics, sensory paths, sports markings, early-years play floors, outdoor classrooms — sequenced into summer-break windows so term-time isn't disrupted.

Specification

What you'll see on the spec sheet.

Thickness

15–110 mm — scaled to critical fall height per EN 1177 / ASTM F1292.

Base layer

SBR rubber granules bound with aliphatic PU — energy absorption.

Wear layer

EPDM granules bound with aliphatic PU — UV-stable colour.

Drainage

Porous; sub-base falls designed to carry water clear of play zones.

Standards

EN 1177 (EU) and ASTM F1292 (US) impact-attenuation tested.

Maintenance

Annual third-party safety inspection contract on every installed project.

Process

From critical fall height to colourful floor.

  1. STEP 01

    Site survey

Substrate review, drainage, equipment fall-height audit.

  2. STEP 02

    Fall-height calc

Total thickness sized to EN 1177 / ASTM F1292 zones.

  3. STEP 03

    Graphic design

4soft prefab selection or free bespoke design service.

  4. STEP 04

    Sub-base prep

Concrete, asphalt or compacted aggregate — checked for falls.

  5. STEP 05

    Base pour

SBR + PU base layer, troweled to thickness.

  6. STEP 06

    Wear pour

EPDM colour layer, mixed and laid to the design.

  7. STEP 07

    Graphic install

2D panels, 3D shapes and EPDM furniture set in place.

  8. STEP 08

    Handover

Pre-opening certification, ops manual, annual care contract.

Surfacing FAQ

What operators and schools ask before signing.

  • What critical fall height does EPDM cover?

Total system thickness is scaled to the play equipment fall height — typically 15 mm for circulation paths up to ~110 mm for the highest 3 m EN 1177 / ASTM F1292 fall-height ratings. We do the calculation as part of the survey.

  • How long does the surface last in Bangkok / Southeast Asia climate?

A correctly installed EPDM system using aliphatic PU binder and UV-stable granules typically lasts 8–12 years before re-coat. The base SBR layer is normally good for the life of the installation.

  • Can 4soft graphics be added to an existing EPDM surface?

Yes — both 2D graphic panels and 3D shapes can be retrofitted onto an existing EPDM playground without re-pouring the base, as long as the substrate is sound.

  • How does it drain in monsoon conditions?

The system is porous by design — rainwater drains straight through to the sub-base, so puddling is eliminated. We design the sub-base falls to carry water clear of play zones.

  • How is it repaired if a section is damaged?

EPDM is patch-repairable. We keep the colour batch on file for every project so a localised repair colour-matches the surrounding area.

  • What is the typical lead time?

From signed brief: 6–8 weeks for design + 4soft graphic fabrication, plus 1–2 weeks on site for the pour and graphic install (weather-dependent).
